Over time the series provided ongoing substantial personal help to the contestants who have gone home, and often they continued weight loss with success. Early series left the ‘losers’ who went home on their own without additional support, and few made positive progress.
That system is a process which can develop great skills within the target group. It is intense and excludes friends and family for increased success. It is not a normally viable option except for extreme cases.
A strong drive to succeed in weight loss, separate from your family, work or social life, can be of great assistance. i.e. it is that the drive is separate not that you are separate.
