Walking to Lose Weight-Day 5
Day 5
A Positive Attitude to Walking to Lose Weight
If you have more than 5 lbs to lose then a positive attitude is your best tool for walking to lose weight. Like most people we can do anything even those things we dislike over the short term. When our commitment is longer then the ability to feel good is imperative. Quick changes which we forget just as soon as we can will lose us a some excess weight. Larger weight loss or living an active, healthier life requires more.
Today’s task is to consider why you are walking to lose weight. After all, there are other exercise options. Focus on the positive aspects and if any are really disguised negatives convert them to a full blown positive. For example, one obvious reason for choosing walking – it’s cheap, but more positively, it is easy to start. It doesn’t require special equipment or to sign up to classes. Any changes can be made after you start. It is always better to get started and then make changes as you go.
When you’re feeling as though maybe it was a mistake to start walking to lose weight, and you really didn’t want to walk remind yourself of each reason for doing it. When you remember why, decide if you prefer to feel good about doing it or want to fight it. Sometimes anger is an energiser and it may be what you need to get going. If so use it but plan to make the anger short term and move on to good feelings about what you are doing.
So why did I want to walk to lose weight?
Inactivity creeps up. Weight loss becomes harder. Lots of reasons for it, mostly related to life cycle. Most people do not realise their lack of activity. They feel that being tired means they have been active. Sometimes this is true. For instance the example of very active people who are overweight. Their diet yells out as the reason, particularly for beer drinkers. A pedometer soon clears up this question.
We will look at the various activity levels once you’re using your pedometer. When I realised how little activity I did daily because of poor lifestyle habits, I made a total commitment to walking to the point where it has become a feature of my life. A major incentive has alway been weight management and that continues. Walking for weight loss is slightly different to walking for weight management, but not much.
The purpose of a positive attitude in walking for weight loss is obvious. It makes it easier to do!
